The future of Gelliwig
Over the past two years, the Trustees of the Birch Thompson Memorial Fund have been working with Ed Barron, Benchmark Design Build Ltd and Cyngor Gwynedd Council to help ensure an exciting and vibrant future for Gelliwig.
Planned over two phases, and exactly 30 years after first opening, we are proud to announce that funding is in place for Phase 1 and work commenced in November 2019.
Phase 1
Phase 1 comprises the full renovation of the former Manse. The aim is to bring the entire building fully up to date with an extensive programme of renovation, repairs and improvements to enable the current facility to meet the modern standards expected by user groups.
Phase 1 work has be carefully considered and designed to include enabling works for Phase 2, so that the planned further development can be seamlessly integrated in the future.
Phase 2
Phase 2 provides for the extension of the facility to include a further 8 bedrooms delivering accommodation for a further 30 students, each room benefitting from dedicated en-suite bathroom facilities and wardrobes. Teachers facilities are upgraded and augmented with dedicated offices and en-suite facilities.
The superb ground floor multi-use recreational area is designed to provide a teaching and presentation area, dining space and an area suitable for leisure activities.
A modern kitchen, new sanitary facilities and storage complete the ground floor.
Please help us to raise the funding necessary to take Gelliwig to a new level, continuing the legacy of Graham Birch and John Thompson.
